#AssaultAtSpringValley: 2023 Analysis of Police Violence

This report is an update to the December 2022 report that analyzed incidents of violence by school police officers against students and the disproportionate impact on Black and Latino/a students attending low-income schools. This update provides additional incidents from the 2022-2023 school year and more context about the reported incidents, such as geographical region and whether a sworn police officer or security guard committed the assault. Key findings of this update include: 80% of victims of police assaults at school were Black students (none of the victims were white), and girls were the victims in the majority of school policing assaults. Furthermore, the report highlights that increasing the number of police in schools also increased violent police incidents. The report cautions that keeping police in schools will continually subject Black students to physical and emotional harm and calls for reform to create safe and equitable educational spaces.
